Grandmaster Judit Polgár, Honorary FIDE Vice-president

It is an honour for the Hungarian Chess sport that Grandmaster Judit Polgár was chosen to be the Honorary FIDE Vice-president this December. According to FIDE “Mrs. Polgár will focus her efforts on chess development all over the world, including promoting chess in schools, popularization of the game and improving the level of tournament organization.”-FIDE news RSS Feed.

She is one of the most prominent Hungarian chess players, and is believed to be the strongest female player of all time. She retired from competitive chess 5 years ago, and since then she has been mainly focusing on promoting chess and having it introduced in the primary schools curriculum in Hungary. In fact, Mrs. Polgár said that it is one of her personal goals, to increase the effect of chess in education, and to find, and help talented children.

Her mission as the Honorary FIDE Vice-president is to do more for the equality between genders, social or economic and age differences in chess. And to help chess reaffirm its place in the 21st century, by conquering new platforms and capturing new audiences.
