Uniting mind, strength and morals

Dr. Tamás Sterbenz, OC President and Vice-Rector for the University of Physical Education (TE), Hungary, is very proud that the oldest higher education institution in Europe that exclusively deals with sport will host the European Universities Bridge and Chess Championship 2019. Mr. Sterbenz, who likes to play chess in this spare time, is particularly interested in mind sports which highly develop strategic thinking, efficient decision-making, profound preparation and cooperation. The host university TE has always put strong emphasis on the development of mind and cognitive thinking, which is the reason why he warmly welcomes the first-rate chess and bridge collegiate competitors in July 2019.

As the host of the European Universities Bridge and Chess Championship 2019, TE will ensure that the finest university competitors in both sports can perform under great circumstances.

Mr. Strebenz has also expressed his dedication to honour chess and bridge champions who achieved their success in the past and assure that the international guests will enjoy Hungarian hospitality.
